Learn-to-Swim For teens
Private / Semi Private Courses
Why does AFA’s schedule seem to have more available spots than other swim programs?
Our proprietary scheduling algorithm combined with long-term bookings from our loyal clients allows for a more efficient schedule setup. That’s why almost every course always seems open. Our algorithm’s efficiency also means we’ll never cancel a course on you, so you can book worry-free!
Learn to Swim courses can be offered as private or semi private, with the exception of Aqua Speed courses.
Private: $452.00 + HST for single registrant for Teen Courses.
Registration for private can be done either online or over the phone. Availability for private is displayed on the courses page, and is updated regularly on the registration form.
Semi Private: $402.00 + Tax per registrant for Teen Courses.
Registration for semi private must be done over the phone only. Semi private classes are set up as custom courses, and the registrant must provide both swimmers for the semi private class (sibling, friend, etc…). Both swimmers must have similar swimming competency, i.e. within two swim levels of each other. If you do not have two available swimmers please consider private or group options instead.

These beginning swimmers will work on safe entries, floats and moving through the water. They’ll explore working in deep water with PFDs and when ready, will do front and back floats without the extra support. This level is for 10+ years that have never taken lessons before.
Prerequisite: 10 – 18 Years of Age, Beginner Non-Swimmer

These students will be able to jump or side roll into deep water, tread water, and swim 10-15m using either front crawl or back crawl. They’ll try ‘vertical’ whip kick and begin to work on their endurance level by stepping into the world of fitness interval training.
Prerequisite: 10-18 Years of Age and Teen 1 or Similar Proficiency

These swimmers will dive and do forward rolls into deep water. Watch them learn handstands and front somersaults underwater. They’ll work on their front crawl, back crawl and whip kick over short distances and add some interval fitness training to their practice. By the end they’ll be able to meet the Swim to Survive standard: Roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute and swim 50m.
Prerequisite: 10-18 Years of Age and Teen 2

These swimmers will swim farther with their front crawl and back crawl. They’ll be introduced to breaststroke arm drills, underwater swims and front crawl sprints. Interval training will add to their fitness level.
Prerequisite: 10-18 Years of Age and Teen 3

These swimmers will try eggbeater kick, head up front crawl, and shallow dives. Just for fun, try ‘tuck’ jumps and underwater back somersaults. They’ll easily go the distance with a strong front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke.
Prerequisite: 10-18 Years of Age and Teen 4

These swimmers will try eggbeater kick, head up front crawl, and shallow dives. Just for fun, try ‘tuck’ jumps and underwater back somersaults. They’ll easily go the distance with a strong front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke.
Prerequisite: 10-18 Years of Age and Teen 5
